The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 26 and 27 of the Police (Scotland) Act 1967[1] and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after taking into consideration any representations made by the Police Advisory Board for Scotland following the submission of a draft of the Regulations in accordance with section 26(9) of that Act, hereby make the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Minimum Age for Appointment) (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and shall come into force on 23rd November 2006.
Amendment of regulation 9 of the Police (Scotland) Regulations 2004
2. In paragraph (1)(c) of regulation 9 of the Police (Scotland) Regulations 2004[2], for "18 years 6 months" substitute "18 years".
Amendment of regulation 2 of the Police Cadets (Scotland) Regulations 1968
3. In paragraph (d) of regulation 2 of the Police Cadets (Scotland) Regulations 1968[3], for "18 years 6 months" substitute "18 years".

These Regulations amend the Police (Scotland) Regulations 2004 to lower from 18 years and 6 months to 18 years the age that a candidate for appointment as a constable must have attained. They also amend the reference to that requirement in the Police Cadets (Scotland) Regulations 1968.
