Office of Fair Trading’s Commercial Use of Public Information

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) launched a market study, the Commercial Use of Public Sector Information (CUPI), in July 2005 to examine the efficiency of public sector information markets, the relationship between these markets and government, and the economic value of public sector information.

It also examined the type of information available, accessibility and re-use of public sector information and charges involved. The report was published on 7 December 2006 and made 23 recommendations to central Government.

The Government responded in June 2007, welcoming the recommendations, accepting many of them and proposed an action plan to implement the recommendations. The responsibility of implementation falls to OPSI, HM Treasury and the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).
