Statement of Fairness

As an accredited Information Fair Trader, HMSO’s Licensing team has a commitment to be open, transparent, consistent and fair in our licensing activities. We have put service standards and procedures in place to ensure that these obligations can be met.

In applying to HMSO to re-use Crown copyright material you can be sure that:

• your application will be treated the same as any other applicant provided that the applications are for similar use;
• we will be open and transparent with you letting you know what the terms are;
• licence terms are expressed in Plain English.

If we are unable to give you a license, we will explain the reasons why. The main reasons for not giving a licence are:

a) the material you wish to re-use is not Crown copyright;
b) you intend using the material in a way which could mislead the public,
c) you are not intending to add any value to the material. This only applies to value added material;
d ) where you wish to use the material for advertising and promotional purposes;
e ) where you have failed to meet obligations under previous licences that we have given you.
