An Act to remove the limits imposed by the National Theatre Act 1949 on the contributions which may be made under that Act towards the cost of erecting and equipping a national theatre.

In section 1 of the M1National Theatre Act 1949 (which, by virtue of the Transfer of Functions (Cultural Institutions) Order 1965 and the M2National Theatre and Museum of London Act 1973, authorises the Secretary of State to make contributions not exceeding £5,700,000 in respect of the cost of erecting and equipping a national theatre), the words “(not exceeding £5,700,000)” shall be omitted, but no contribution shall be made under that section after the passing of this Act without the consent of the Treasury.
(1)This Act may be cited as the National Theatre Act 1974, and the National Theatre Act 1949 and this Act may be cited together as the National Theatre Acts 1949 and 1974.
(2)Subsection (1) of section 1 of the National Theatre and Museum of London Act 1973, and, in section 2 of that Act, the words from “and the National Theatre Act” to the words “1949 and 1973” are hereby repealed.
