An Act to enable the Trustees of the British Museum to except certain publications from the provisions of subsection (1) of section fifteen of the Copyright Act 1911.

1 Power of Trustees to except certain publications from s. 15 (1) of 1 & 2 Geo. 5. c. 46

(1)Notwithstanding anything in subsection (1) of section fifteen of the Copyright Act 1911, the publisher of any publication of a class to which this Act for the time being applies shall not be required to deliver a copy of the publication to the [F1British Library Board] (hereafter in this Act referred to as “the [F1Board]”) unless a written demand for the delivery thereof is made by the [F1Board]; and the [F1Board] shall not be required to accept or give a receipt for a copy of any publication which is not required to be delivered to them.

(2)The Trustees may by regulations—

(a)apply this Act to publications of such classes as may be specified in the regulations, being publications of all or any of the descriptions set out in the Schedule to this Act;

(b)except any particular publication from any class of publication to which this Act is applied by the regulations, or to which this Act has been applied by previous regulations.

(3)All regulations made under this Act shall be laid before each House of Parliament as soon as may be after they are made, and if either House, within the next subsequent twenty-eight days on which that House has sat after the regulations are laid before it, resolves that the regulations be annulled, the regulations shall thenceforth be void, but without prejudice to anything previously done thereunder or to the making of any new regulations.

Publications wholly or mainly in the nature of trade advertisements.

Registers of voters prepared under the [F1Representation of the M1People Act 1949], as amended by any subsequent enactment.

Specifications of inventions prepared for the purposes of the [F2M2Patents Act 1977], as amended by any subsequent enactment.

Publications wholly or mainly in the nature of time tables of passenger transport services, being publications prepared for local use.

Publications wholly or mainly in the nature of calendars.

Publications wholly or mainly in the nature of blank forms of accounts, or blank forms of receipts, or other blank forms of a similar character.

Wall sheets printed with alphabets, mottoes, religious texts or other matter for the purpose of elementary instruction.
